Geoffrey Harris is the Distinguished Teaching Fellow Vesalius College, Brussels and Professor at the College of Europe, Bruges. He was an official of the European Parliament from 1976-2016. His postings included Deputy Head of the European Parliament’s Liaison Office with the U.S. Congress, based in Washington D.C. (2012-2016) and was the Head of the Human Rights Unit within the Secretariat General of the European Parliament (Directorate General for External Policies – 2005-2012). He was in charge of inter-parliamentary relations with countries in Europe but outside the EU (1992 – 2004). He coordinated relations with the parliaments of all countries involved in the enlargement process as well as with Russia, the Balkans, the countries of the eastern neighbourhood of the EU as well as the European Economic Area. From 1989-1992 he was the diplomatic adviser to the President of Parliament. He is the author of The Dark Side of Europe: The Extreme Right Today.
